Our aims and objectives
ecarewell aims to understand how digital technologies can best meet the needs of carers in Derry City & Strabane District Council and how these technologies can support their health and wellbeing.
Outcomes/Aims
Working with three key delivery agents, Northwest regional college (NWRC), Digital catapult NI (DCNI) and the Health innovation research alliance (HIRANI), the Ecarewell project is comprised of several key elements across five stages to better understand the specific technology needs of carers within the Derry and Strabane district council area.
Project Elements
- Undertake a comprehensive assessment of carers’ needs (interviews/questionnaires)
- Obtain technology from companies to test with carers.
- Provide carers (and those cared for) with devices/skills to help manage their caring responsibilities.

Project Timeline
- Stage 1: Comprehensive audit (Pre-evaluation)
- Stage 2: DIAL oversees hand over and use of technology by carer
- Stage 3: Mid-term evaluation by UU/HIRANI
- Stage 4: Complete testing of all technology by carers (Oct 2022)
- Stage 5: Assess how carers baseline wellbeing measures change as a result of the programme (Final Evaluation)
